Perak crisis: Stay of execution granted
1:15pm The Court of Appeal grants Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abd Kadir his application for a stay of execution on the KL High Court ruling yesterday that declared Datuk Seri Mohammad Nizar Jamaluddin the righful mentri besar of Perak. Essentially, it might mean Dr Zambry is mentri besar until his appeal is heard.
From TheMalaysiaInsider
KUALA LUMPUR, May 11 — Pakatan Rakyat’s Datuk Seri Nizar Jamaluddin is the real mentri besar of Perak , the Kuala Lumpur High Court decided today.
Judge Datuk Abdul Aziz Abdul Rahim said in his ruling: “The only way to force the MB to resign is through a vote of no confidence that must be taken in the state legislative assembly.”
The High Court also rejected an appeal from Barisan Nasional’s (BN) Datuk Zambry Abdul Kadir for a stay of the declaration.
Nizar is now on the way to Ipoh to seek an audience with the Perak Sultan to ask for consent to dissolve the state assembly.
Nizar looked stunned when the judge announced the decision and even later, when his peers from PR, including PAS’s Datuk Mustafa Ali, PKR’s Azmin Ali and the DAP’s Datuk Ngeh Koo Ham, rushed forward to hug him and his team of lawyers.
Nga Kor King of the DAP told The Malaysian Insider the Perak PR alliance will hold a meeting tonight to discuss the next step while waiting for an audience with Sultan Azlan Shah, whom he believes is in the United States.
“We must give the Sultan time,” he stressed.
As the eventful day draws to a close, several police Federal Reserve Unit (FRU) trucks have been observed pulling up at the Perak State Secretariat in Ipoh.
